   The Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) made "Ban asbestos by 2003" its campaign theme for Workers' Memorial Day 2001. The campaign, which included a postcard campaign to the Minister for Employment Tony Abbott (see below), was a total success. A white asbestos ban will take effect in Australia from December 2003. More than 30 countries have already implemeted bans on white asbestos or intend to ban it in the near future.
