Building solidarity The Asian Workers' Occupational Health, Safety and Environment Institute has got its work cut out. Phil Drew, the director of the Bangkok-based, union-backed OHSE Institute, says at least 200,000 Asian workers die in workplace accidents each year.

He says: "Improving occupational health, safety and the environment in Asia is an important task for trade unions," adding that "one objective of OHSE Institute is to ensure that unions see occupational health and safety as an organising issue."
