GLOBAL UNION ICEM MAKING THINGS SAFER AT WORK

Hazards 79 photofile, July-Sept 2002

Safety in numbers Health and safety worldwide is a top priority for the 20 million-strong International Federation of Chemical, Energy, Mine and General Workers' Unions (ICEM),says ICEM's Ian Graham.

ICEM's global agreements with leading multinationals highlight safety issues. The aim is to ensure consistently high standards worldwide by securing unions' right to monitor performance and raise any problems with management at the corporate HQ. This is the crucial difference between global agreements and companies' own codes of conduct.
