Growing pains

With agriculture one of the most dangerous industries, improving health and safety is a top union priority. Sue Longley of IUF, the global food and agriculture union, explains its plough-to-plate safety strategy.

IUF has 341 affiliated trade unions in 124 countries and is the international union confederation covering food, agriculture, hotels, restaurants, catering, tobacco and allied workers.

It implements wide ranging safety and environmental policies through trade union development and education programmes and projects.The IUF Global Pesticides Project is the biggest programme, currently being piloted in Ghana, Uganda and Tanzania.
