Series of ICD Events to Include Trade Union Organizations Across the Country

OSHE - Bangladesh: The Bangladesh Occupational Safety, Health and Environment Foundation, the national OHS centre for the labour movement in the country, is organizing a series of interactive events to mark the International Commemoration Day 2006 in the capital city, Dhaka, as well as other regions.

Activities planned in advance of the ICD itself include: a special workshop, 'Ban Asbestos Nationally and Globally' - 21 April; submission of a 'Memorandum' to the Prime Minister's Office as a part of the National Ban Asbestos Campaign - 25 April; a follow-up meeting to review their 'Campaign for National Policy and Time Befitting OSH Laws for Workers' - 26 April; and distribution of special campaign flyers entitled 'Union Workplace = Safe Workplace' in the major industrial centres of Dhaka, Chittagong, Khulna and Sylhet - 21-28 April.

These will be followed on 28 April itself by a National Press Conference for workers, as well as a Memorial Day Candle Event in the 'Muktangon Area' to include all OSHE-affiliated national trade union centres, Industrial Federations and National Unions.

As well, OSHE will encourage all national trade union centres and Industrial Federations in Bangladesh to organize special events for their organizations. Contact: A.R. Chowdhury REPON, Executive Director, oshe@agni.com
