APRIL 2006 Bangladesh: Workers' Memorial Day Activities 2006 BFTUC: Bangladesh Trade Union Foundation to contact seven G8 embassies to promote global unions HIV/AIDS campaign BFTUC: The General Secretary of the Bangladesh Occupational Safety, Health and Environment Foundation has confirmed that his organization will deliver campaign letter to the embassies of the United Kingdom, Japan, the United States, Canada, France, Germany, and Italy, all of which are situated in the capital city of Dhaka. The Foundation, which is the National OHSE Centre for the Bangladesh labour movement, is planning to make its deliveries between 19 - 24 April 2006, well in advance of the 28 April target date set by the Global Unions Campaign on HIV/AIDS. The goal of the Global Unions Campaign is to urge countries attending the G8 Summit this July in the Russian Federation to create a permanent working group on HIV/AIDS to provide a sustained response which will ensure that they live up to promises made at their Gleneagles Summit last year. In a Campaign circular sent our earlier this month, Alan Leather, Deputy General Secretary of the Public Services International (PSI) and Chair of the Global Unions Campaign asked all affiliates of the ICFTU, the TUAC and the Global Union Federations to hand deliver or mail a letter to at least one Embassy of a G8 nation situated in their country by 28 April, the International Commemoration Day for Dead and Injured Workers..
