APRIL 2006 IUF: Workers' Memorial Day Activities 2006 28 April Activities to Draw Attention to Employer Responsibility for Worker Deaths IUF: The International Union of Food, Agricultural, Hotel, Restaurant, Catering, Tobacco and Allied Workers' Associations will hold April 28 activities that draw attention to the thousands of workers who have died as a result of their employment in the various sectors represented by their Global Union Federation, particularly those employed in agriculture. At the same time, they will focus on the workers who have died because of exposure to asbestos and use this day to support the call of the international labour movement for a global ban on its production and use. As in the past, the IUF will continue to emphasise employer responsibility for many of the deaths that occur, promoting the idea that the day is meant to commemorate those who have died because of bad employment practices and to campaign for improvements.
