Malta: Workers' Memorial Day Activities 2006

28 April activities in Malta to Include public ceremonies & visits with Political Authorities

GWU: The General Workers' Union Institute for Health and Safety of Malta is organizing a number of activities to mark 28 April International Commemoration Day. The flag of the GWU will be flown at half-mast in front of the Workers' Memorial Building, while flowers are laid at the Workers' Monument in Valletta. Visits are planned to the Ecclesiastical Authorities, the Minister concerned with Labour, the Speaker from the political Opposition Party and the Chairperson of the Authority on Health and Safety. As well, presentations will be aired on a local radio station on Tuesday 28 March, and a special spot reserved on a local television station. The Youth Section of GWU has been invited to play a part in the the ceremonies.

In preparation for 28 April, posters with the ICFTU slogan “Union Workplaces–Safer Workplaces!’ will be distributed at workplaces, and a Press Release will be issued, with various articles produced for the daily newspaper to raise the awareness of the public.
