Building and Wood Workers International focuses 28 April activities on world-wide asbestos ban campaign about one hundred building industry unions belonging to the BWI will take part in a wide range of activities, from small and large rallies to educational and training events, including basic information dissemination, through public and membership meetings more


28 April: Global Union Targets Asbestos Industry For World Asbestos Ban Campaign - Canadian Backing for Asbestos Industry Becomes Union Target
International groups representing labor are making a global asbestos ban a top priority on this year's April 28 activities on International Workers' Memorial Day. The Building and Wood Workers International (BWI) are mobilizing their "members throughout the world to engage in peaceful demonstrations and petitions at Canadian Embassies and Consulates to convince the Canadian government to call a halt to its aggressive marketing and promotion of asbestos in developing countries such as India, Zimbabwe and Brazil."

International Workers' Memorial Day

The BWI says organise! Strong unions = safe jobs!
Each year on the 28th April trade unions around the world organise events to celebrate International Workers Memorial Day. The purpose is to highlight the preventable nature of workplace accidents and ill health, and to promote campaigns and union organisation to improve health and safety at work. It is also a day to remember all those who have died because of their job.
